ROBIN SMITH/HEARTLANDS CUSTOM - 'VIRGINIA' - Pre-Loved - 2007 - Sold

Robin Smith (Heartlands Banjo & Guitar Company) has gained a solid gold reputation as the maker of fine instruments.

His workmanship is the choice of famous pickers such as Bill Evans (the Bill Evans Signature banjo recently released). Jim Mills has used Robin's neck-making expertise in converting vintage tenor TB Gibsons into 5-string banjos.

Custom-made in USA for a resident of Virginia. Red Cardinal and Dogwood flower state emblems inlays by Bryan England. Cox rim. Highly figured Curly Maple neck. Bound headstock. Curly Maple resonator is double-bound with abalone and white binding. Radius Rosewood fingerboard has intricate Dogwood-flower inlays of Pearl and Abalone by Bryan England. New Waverly ivoroid geared tuners. Presto tailpiece. One-piece flange. Prucha engraved tension hoop and armrest. The heart of the Virginia's sound is Robin Smith's 16-hole pre-war replica tonering; the ring with the sting! This is a masterpiece bluegrass banjo with a crackling flathead sound and knock out workmanship.
